Washington, DC (May 4,2021) – Subject Matter today announced that Capitol Hill veteran and policy advisor Keith Castaldo will join the firm’s government relations team beginning May 17, 2021. Castaldo comes to the firm from the US Senate, where he served as General Counsel for Kirsten Gillibrand, driving strategy, coalition building, business outreach and policy for her major legislative initiatives. A graduate of the Chicago-Kent School of Law, Castaldo also served as the Senator’s Legal Counsel on issues related to ethics, workplace policy and campaign finance.
“I’m excited to join Subject Matter’s multifaceted team and look forward to applying my background in public policy to the world of advocacy,” said Castaldo. “If there’s a common thread among Subject Matter’s clients, it’s that their subjects matter. The firm is doing important work across many industries, and I am eager to be part of that.”
Throughout his time in Congress, Castaldo worked extensively with the Senate Finance, Banking and HELP Committees. Prior to working in the Senate, Castaldo was a House staffer for a senior Member on the Ways and Means Committee and the Budget Committee, leading the Representative’s tax and finance agenda through the implementation of the Recovery and the Dodd-Frank Acts.
More recently, Castaldo has worked with cutting-edge technology companies, specializing in issues related to cyber security and data protection. He also maintains strong ties to the New York City business community, having spent much of his career leading policy efforts on finance issues pertaining to the taxes, trade and technologies of multinational companies and large financial institutions.
“Keith brings standout expertise and experience to our growing team,” said Subject Matter partner Steve Elmendorf. “He’s been central to shaping progressive policies for decades, and comes with an impressive background in tech, finance and other influential industries. We couldn’t be happier to welcome Keith to Subject Matter.”
