Hire of key Hill veteran grows firm’s bipartisan team
Washington D.C. (Jan. 5, 2022) – Subject Matter today announced the addition of Rebecca Shaw, Chief of Staff for Rep. Trey Hollingsworth (R-IN) and prior Deputy Chief of Staff for former Rep. Chris Gibson (R-NY), to its Government Relations team. With over a decade of Hill experience, Shaw’s political leadership credentials will enhance the firm’s ability to deliver versatile integrated strategy and execution across a range of sectors.
“I’m excited to join Subject Matter’s bipartisan government relations team,” said Shaw. “With the support of the firm’s top-tier resources, I look forward to advising and advocating for our clients as we enter Midterm elections and beyond.”
On Rep. Hollingsworth’s staff, Shaw oversaw legislative and political operations. She was instrumental in ensuring his office ran effectively and efficiently, managing budget and diverse teams spanning three offices. With her assistance, Hollingsworth was an active member of the House Financial Services Committee, passing seven bills through the Financial Services Committee, four bills through the House of Representatives, and having two bills signed into law in his first congressional term. In addition, Shaw was an asset to the congressman’s political success, managing a two-person communications team that resulted in the candidate’s 88 percent name identification going into his first reelection campaign, as well as electoral gains over each reelection.
“As we enter 2022 following a turbulent year, Rebecca’s expertise in Member decisions and communications, management of large and small teams, and passion for achieving stakeholder goals make her crucial to our firm,” said Subject Matter partner Steve Elmendorf. “Her passion and perspective will greatly add to our growing bipartisan Government Relations team.”
During her time on former Rep. Gibson’s team, Shaw handled a broad-issue portfolio, including committee work for the Congressman’s Agriculture and Small Business Committee assignments, as well as financial services, budget, education, healthcare, and taxes. She also served on the Republican National Convention Committee on Arrangements in both 2020 and 2016, as Chief of the GOP Block and a member of the External Affairs Division, respectively.
