Subject Matter Welcomes Sandra Alcala to Government Relations Team

Hire of a key agency veteran reflects firm’s commitment to providing top-tier expertise

Washington D.C. (Dec. 1, 2021) – Subject Matter today announced that Capitol Hill veteran, policy advisor and former Chief of Staff Sandra Alcala will join the firm’s government relations team beginning December 1, 2021. Alcala comes to the creative advocacy firm after nearly nine years on the Hill, most recently serving as Chief of Staff to Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX).

A coalition-builder and skilled-strategist, Alcala has worked in several roles on Capitol Hill including Director of Member Services for Chairman Hakeem Jeffries and the House Democratic Caucus. Prior to that role, she worked as Policy Director for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus where she worked with the Congressional Tri-Caucus to lead important legislative priorities including the Dream Act and the Health Equity and Accountability Act. As a former biomedical scientist with a Ph.D. in neuroscience, Alcala has an expansive and substantive background in science and technology, health, and immigration policy.
